What is the difference you ask? A sharpener takes a dull tool and simply scrapes away enough metal until the edge feels “good enough”. A craftsman on the other hand, has the unquenchable desire to make things exceptionally well, to do the job right.

While recognizing that perfection is never achieved, we judge our work according to this standard. We do not believe in throw away knives and cheap knife sharpening gimmicks. We believe quality knives deserve proper care and sharpening technique.

So who does the sharpening at KySharp.com? From a very early age, Philip Fox was intrigued by knives. Growing up, his hero did not wear a cape, play on a basketball court, or sing on a stage. Rather his hero was the adventurer, pioneer and knife maker Jim Bowie. Like his hero, Philip began making knives out of wood and carried them wherever he went. At the tender age of 5, Philip recieved his first quality knife, a Frontier pocket knife, from his mother as a reward for memorizing bible scriptures. He was hooked!

Life has taken a lot of twists and turns since those early years. Although he holds degrees in mathematics, physics and engineering, Philip was never interested in climbing the corporate ladder. Rather, he lives a quiet simple life with his wife and two children in rural northern Kentucky. Through a career including landscaping, engineering and stock trading the simple joy of using a razor sharp knife has never been lost.

Until recently however, Philip was never satisfied with any of the popular sharpening methods. They all removed too much blade material and gave inconsistent sharpening results. It was then that Philip discovered a sharpening system that with skill and attention to detail, could produce not only razor sharp edges, but could do so consistently. Knowing that many knife owners would be thrilled to have their knives sharpened to better than new, he began offering his sharpening services locally from Lexington to Florence Kentucky and nationwide by mail.
